On training your dog - doggie door

As you may (or may not) know by now, my dog is my baby.
i treat him like a mother treats their child
so when something isn't right or isn't working i have to find a way to make it better...

we made the mistake of not training him on a doggie door while he was a puppy
this has caused a major dilemma
he learned very quickly to sit by the door and let us know when he had to potty
but the problem was when we weren't home, or when we were asleep...
if he had to go at any of those times and just couldnt hold it anymore...
well our floor became his outside.

we kinda got sick of it & decided to get him a doggie door.
remember hes a year old already
so we definitely started way too late
we figured he'd learn quick though since he has proven to be pretty smart about most other things.

boy were we wrong.
he refuses to use it on his own
i say to him "outside, go potty"
he looks at the doggie door and waits for me to help him
then when he's outside wanting back in,
instead of just hopping through like a normal dog,
he sticks his head through the door and either whines or barks really loud
he's pretty much saying "let me in, pleeeease!"

We aren't sure what to do anymore!
The door is plenty big enough for his size so that's not the problem
the only other thing i can think of is it's too high for his liking
since he is a corgi, he's got short little legs...

Does anyone have any suggestions?!?
I would really appreciate any and all help!
Please share your experiences on training your dogs/pups on a doggie door

xoxo.Ashley
